Daniel M. CarneyCo-Founder and Former President/CEO of Pizza Hut Inc.
Dan Michael Carney graduated from the University of Wichita, Kansas in 1958, now presiding as Wichita State University. Dan and his brother Frank started one of the most successful franchises in America by borrowing $600 from their mother when they opened the first Pizza Hut in 1958.
The success of Pizza Hut in America is exemplary and world renown. In 1968 the first international Pizza Hut restaurant was opened in Canada. In 1969, Pizza Hut Inc. had its first general public offering. In 1971 Pizza Hut became world leader in pizza sales and number of restaurants. In 1977 Pizza Hut merged with Pepsi Co. In 1980 Pizza Hut unit No. 4,000 opened, and today Pizza Hut is the largest pizza chain in the world and still growing both in the U.S. and internationally while employing thousands of employees worldwide.
In today’s multifarious business environment, Mr. Carney realizes that effective security is now a priority and should be mandatory for any business. One of the highest risks that management and human resource professionals encounter on a regular basis is the threat of workplace violence following termination. Seventy-five percent of all workplace-related acts of violence have occurred during or after the firing process. Mr. Carney exclaims, “The danger of workplace violence is an unfortunate reality in this day and age. Whether you are terminating an employee to prevent a risk, or you fear a hostile termination may incite a problem, having trained security professionals like the U.S. Protective Service on hand is a smart precaution. This will help to prevent a problem before it starts, and allow your company with the ability to take action to keep your employees, customers and business assets safe and secure. As a world renown and highly recognized business entrepreneur, I consider it an honor and a privilege to be on the Board of Advisors for the U.S. Protective Service, mainly because they are some of the most diverse and truly impressive professionals that I have ever met”
Dan Michael Carney continues to maintain strong community ties to his own hometown. He has been Chairman of the Board of Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, since its inception of 30 years, a charitable organization and not-for-profit business. He presently sits on the board of the WSU Foundation, Guadalupe Clinic, Wichita Red Cross and Wichita Community Foundation. Mr. Carney has also been awarded the W.S.U. Presidents Medal of Distinguished Alumnus Award, and the Big Brother/Big Sisters 'Reaching the Summit' honor. In 1977 he was the first inductee into the Pizza Hut Hall of Fame, and in 2001 awarded the Junior Achievement Wichita Business Hall of Fame.
Dan Carney also serves as Chairman of the Board of T-Netix (NASDAQ), and holds primary positions on the boards of the U.S. Protective Service, DCSS Digital Computing, Resort One and Pulse Inc, while managing his own worldwide personal investments into over 72 different business entities.
